The “BI Mengajar” (BI Teaches) program was once again held, this time at Nurul Jadid University, engaging students from the Islamic Banking and Islamic Economics study programs as the main participants. This initiative aimed to enhance the younger generation’s understanding particularly among the academic community of the roles and functions of Bank Indonesia (BI) within the national financial system.

The event took place at the Auditorium of Building G, with Anggara Dwi R., a representative from Bank Indonesia, delivering the materials comprehensively. The event was officially opened by the Head of the Islamic Banking Department, Achmad Febrianto, M.E.I., who emphasized in his remarks the importance of synergy between the academic world and monetary authorities in shaping a generation well-versed in financial systems.

The session covered several key topics, including the historical background of BI—which was formerly known as De Javasche Bank—as well as the three main policy areas of Bank Indonesia: (1) Monetary Policy, (2) Macroprudential Policy, (3) Payment System Policy, summarized by the acronym CEMUMUAH, standing for Fast, Easy, Affordable, Secure, and Reliable.

Participants also gained a deep understanding of BI’s core functions, which include: maintaining rupiah stability, safeguarding the payment system, and contributing to the stability of the financial system in order to support sustainable economic growth. Equally important, the speaker elaborated on the currency management process conducted by Bank Indonesia, which consists of the following stages: (1) Planning, (2) Printing, (3) Issuance, (4) Circulation, (5) Withdrawal and Recall, (6)Destruction. The session also addressed the implications of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK) on BI’s institutional structure, and highlighted the significance of the national campaign “Love, Proud, and Understand Rupiah” as part of efforts to strengthen economic sovereignty.

With high enthusiasm and interactive engagement from the students, the BI Mengajar program successfully fostered collective awareness of the critical role of the central bank in maintaining national economic stability. The session concluded with a Q&A segment and a group photo session with the speaker.
